Following a trend of inconsistent quality, PTFE tubing manufacturer consolidation and increased industrial gas market demand for PTFE tubing, we’ve taken lead manufacturing into our own hands.

Manufactured specifically for the high-pressure gas market

The major PTFE manufacturers are focused on supplying larger markets like automotive and aerospace. The gas market is considered a very small part of their business leaving the industrial gas market at the bottom of their list. It became clear we needed to take action and commit to finding a solution.

We invested in a custom-built post sintering oven, wire winder and braider and engineered a reproduction process that would ensure a consistent, high quality product. We also hired Al Marena, a Mechanical Engineer with over 25 years of experience in the PTFE tube/flexible lead business. Al’s deep knowledge in manufacturing PTFE flexible leads and fittings used in the industrial, automotive and aerospace industries would deliver the product our market was lacking.

A lead like no other

All our leads are post-sintered, braided, assembled, tested, and oxygen cleaned, at our Aurora, Illinois facility.

Post-sintering reduces effusion. It provides the lowest effusion rate possible while maintaining the highest flexibility and most robust inner core. This is accomplished during the re-heating process when molecular voids between the PTFE chains are closed even further, making the PTFE more “dense”. By making these voids as small as possible it closes the path a gas will follow while under pressure.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a completely fluorinated polymer manufactured by free radical polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene. This material is notorious for its superior physical properties. The post sintering process elevates these properties further by re-heating the PTFE tube in an unrestricted state.

Extensive testing for safety

Three rounds of testing are performed on each and every lead we manufacture.

Procedures performed on every lot of bulk hose

  • Effusion Test - Per CGA E-9 section 5.7
  • Room Temp Burst Test - Per AS 2078 section 4.8.1

Procedures performed on our final manufactured assemblies (using our designed components)

  • 100% Hydrostatic pressure tested to 1.5 times the MAWP
  • 100% Nitrogen leak tested
  • 100% Oxygen Cleaned and Bagged
  • Identification per CGA-E-9 section 5.2
